What is Leadership San Luis Obispo? Who is it for? What does it do for the participants? What does it do for our community?
Participants in Leadership San Luis Obispo aren't just your typical leaders. Sure, in each class you will probably find politicians, business executives, officers and managers. These people have taken on leadership roles in their working life and will contribute significantly to their class experience while learning skills and community values that will transition well into their office roles. But Leadership San Luis Obispo alumni are also made up of mothers and fathers, college students, retirees, line workers, farmers and ranchers and people of an endless list of varying backgrounds. You see, we realize that everyone in our community plays an important role in shaping our community. With each individual, the potential to affect positive change is within reach. Leadership San Luis Obispo will give each individual participant the skills, awareness and community background needed to make a positive impact on our county.
So whether your interest lies in creating a more entrenched marketing plan for your company's county‑wide sales or becoming an active participant in your child's PTA, Leadership San Luis Obispo can be a wonderful learning experience to help you reach your goals while simultaneously helping to make our community even better than it already is. About Sandi
Sandi Sigurdson began her tenure as Director of Leadership SLO in January 2010.
From 1994 to 2009 she was Executive Director of the San Luis Obispo Symphony and managed its growth from a small community orchestra with a budget of $300,000 to the respected, successful and internationally known organization it is today with a budget of over one million dollars.
A graduate of Leadership Class I, Sandi has twice served on the Board of Directors for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, is a former SLO City Planning Commissioner and worked for the Environmental Center of San Luis Obispo (ECOSLO) from 1991-1994, later serving on their Board of Directors. Sandi is Past President of the Central Coast Planned Giving Council and was honored as a Cuesta College Woman of Distinction in 2004. In 2009 Sandi served as President of the Association of California Symphony Orchestras.
Sandi is married to Steve McGrath, Harbor Manager at Port San Luis Harbor District, they have 3 children. Their favorite person is their granddaughter, Guadalupe Itzamná Arias de McGrath.
Before entering non-profit work Sandi spent fifteen years in hotel and restaurant management, starting that career as a maid and as a dishwasher.
Sandi prays regularly for relief from the burden of self-righteousness and is grateful for Central Coast oak trees.
